About Point Loma Arts Academy

Our Program

Point Loma Arts Academy is an unique arts program which takes place every year during the month of July. Since 1980, PLAA has been providing children with a wonderful arts experience, comprised of a morning visual arts session and an afternoon drama session. Children may choose to participate in one or both sessions. Each session is three hours long and encompasses a variety of projects and activities.

Our Location

Currently, Point Loma Arts Academy is located on the site of All Souls' Episcopal Church, 1475

Who May Attend

Point Loma Arts Academy’s morning session is open to Kindergarten – 6th graders. The afternoon drama session is open to 3rd – 8th graders with an interest in theater. 7th – 12th graders may choose to apply to be a teacher’s assistant. For more information, contact Mary Keller, Artistic Director at merryrobin@cox.net.

The Experience

Point Loma Arts Academy is known for its distinctive approach to arts education. Children are exposed to art forms such as ceramics, print-making, sculpture, sand painting, various forms of dance and song, and much more. PLAA strives to include art, music and dance from all over the world. Visiting artists have come from Mexico, Africa, and the Pacific Northwest to share art, dance and music from their cultures. One year, the children helped to build an horno, or adobe brick oven, which is permanently housed at the program site.
